Sirs, what are materials needed for making a DIY blowgun? Material for darts, and what are the ideal specs for the BG and darts? Any tips from the experts please? Thanks in advance. John

Hi JJman,
Depending on your lung capacity, blowguns have calibers also if you buy commercially they have .40 .50 and .625 calibers. Of course the bigger the caliber the more lung power you need. For starters you need to have 48" (this is the standard competition length) though you can use a short one. A .50 cal is an ideal size to start with.
Since we will be doing DIY the best we can use are aluminum tubing since they are commonly available in aluminum and glass suppliers and most will sell per foot (one length is about 21 feet) as for calibers, the nearest size comparison is .40 cal would be a 1/2" dia tube; a .50cal would be a 5/8" dia tube and the .625 cal would be a 3/4" tube.
For darts, you can start with a paper cone insert a shaft (machine made bamboo bb2 sticks or ordinary GI wire used as laundry lines with one tip shaped to a point. You can drip candle was in the cone to keep it in place.
To size your dart cone to the tube insert your new dart and where the cone meets the lip of the tube mark it with a pen and trim. You may need to trim a bit more to make it fit in the tube. A snug fit is nice one that will allow you to stand the tube without the dart moving down but just tight enough that it will not be difficult to blow the dart out.
Hope that gets you started.

Thank you Sir Snyper, I been doing some browsing on blowgun sites and I've been eyeing the .50 cal blowguns in 4-5 ft two piece tubes . Now my main concern is that tubes might get bent in shipping and handling from the U.S. This is one hobby which involves projectiles and targets one can enjoy doing indoors and it is not that expensive. I might start a DIY project soon. Thanks again

If you are planning to get 1 ( or 2 para gift mo sa akin ang isa ;D ) from the US this should be it ( kindly check the link ) ..It's a CT acronymn for close tolerance model w/c means that the inside diameter is .495-.497 depending on the batch...497 kasi ang diameter ng .50 cone so that if you get a PB paint ball model maluwang siya..Nasa .507 something ang inside diameter ng PB model if I remember it right. Nasukat ko na ito using a micrometer..Also a 2 piece bg will always be inferior to a 1 piece no matter how good your connector is. I am a perfectionist bro so I know what I am talking about. The best connector if you so decide to get a breakdown model is lathed engineering plastic. Mga 3.5 - 4 inches dapat. Commercial connectors are crap believe me at marami na dumaan sa akin. Now you must determine the EXACT od of your tube ( di naman kasi parehas yan lahat kahit factory ) then have the machinist bore the custom connector w/ a drill bit 1/64 SMALLER and not BIGGER than your tube's od..Mahirap pa naman hanapin ang odd na increments I tell you..No 1 has done this before si crossliner baby pa lang www.blowgun.com/shop/category.aspx?catid=42Ka forum ko ang owner ng site na ito and he will hand pick a tube for you..Best regards.

Snyper, batmon and crossliner: Sirs, thank you for the tips and replies. I will shop around for aluminum tubes but whats the ideal thickness na sturdy enough? and what kind of vinyl suitable for cones or discs? I will let you guys know if I can secure the materials needed. @ Crossliner: Sir, saludo ako sa darts gawa mo, parang factory made bilib ako!! Btw, who among you are from Cebu? Gusto ko sana makita blowguns ninyo for inspiration. Later nalang PCP project kasi expensive at tagal ng waiting. Thanks again guys. Godbless

Davao kami lahat bro jjman. as for your DIY project, the usual aluminum tubing you use in tv antennas will suffice. Since a 4ft long tube will be sturdy enough you can use those. If you have the time you can check out thicker walled tubes but they will be a bit expensive too.

Kana lang pod bro ky mahal ang shipping cost ky maski gaan sya taas man pod.
Ang purpose pod anang bearing ky inig cut nako sa cone using a cutter motuyok ra sya.

Ngita pko lain if naay time. Will keep you posted Bro. Thanks. BTW inspired ko sa inyong BGs ky nindot kaayo

I know about them bro, visited the shop with batmon and some airguneros. Already had some stuff done by them albeit its for AG parts. I will be having a few tubes powder coated when I get the chance (and budget as well) though they give very affordable prices.

Right you are bro..I had my items bead blasted to eliminate them paint remnants before submitting it to them. Heard truck bedliner paint is a tough finish too but somewhat textured..Naa koy nakitang aerosol paint ngari..Mao man ni gamit sa mga airgunners sa tate para sa ila stock.
