Hi twoshot,
Are you from Davao too? 'Coz here in Davao its been sometime that the Bear Brand kiteflying event has been discontinued. There are a lot of kiteflyers here in Davao. As a matter of fact if my memory serves me right. We had had largest attendance during one season.
BTW, are you also a kite enthusiast?
Here in Davao it was discontinued, during that time there was a bombing incident in the Airport. We thought it was just for that year but the event never came back to Davao. Right now our small group helps in organizing kite making/flying activities for different public and private organizations as well as other events in neighboring cities.

I didn't know that bro, but based on history kites was used in war too. It was used for communications - hoisting radio antenna to get better signals. Used in providing illumination and determining distance. But for modern day, it may be more for marking targets. One can disguise kite flying as a means to pinpoint a location of an enemy-more like poor man's GPS. As for the capacity to decapitate, there may be logic in it. We used to play kite fighting with our local kite (Guryon) or Rokaku (japanese fighting kites) and there is a way to put ground glass on the string so that when you kite line tangles with an opponent it will cut his line thereby making you the winner. Also, when you fly large kites there will be considerable pull on the string which can even drag you on your feet. I have made a 2 Meter Square dual line traction kite, made of ordinary sack. But if you fly it in high winds (like when you are in the beach) two persons will have a hard time holding you back. And the flying line is so tight it hums just like guitar strings. Image that hitting you . . . . . .
