THE COMETA FUSION
A Personal Review
[/center]
We'll it finally arrived, This springer AG was the prize I won in a foreign forum sometime last December 2010. I am not really a fan of springers but I do know they have a following among airgun enthusiasts. I have tried to shoot a few like a Diana, R10, Hatsan, Feinwerkbau. One thing common about these guns is the kick as they use springs as the power plant. The recoil is akin to shooting a FA Rifle.
Though I am not a huge fan (then) of springers, the great thing about this type of AG is you don't have to worry about air refills. I am no expert in shooting them either as it takes a bit of getting used to, so I am also learning to shoot springers.
The unit I won is a COMETA FUSION Spring air rifle. This has a beech stock (there are several models availabe, with only the stock differing). The checkering on the wood stock is nice. Trigger guard is plastic. The action's finish (bluing) is also very good, the trigger itself is plastic and adjustable (though I have not tinkered with it yet). More extensive description can be found on the links I have posted above for additional reading.
Overall the gun has a very good build. The weight and balance is nice not too heavy like some of the springers I have tried (though the wood it used was walnut).
You may be wondering how it got here. We'll I waited for the opportunity to have it included in a BBox. I had the Stock and action separated so it would fit in. Unfortunately the person I asked to pack it did not wrap it in bubble wrap or just plain cardboard. The stock ended up with bad looking scratch on the left side. But that can be remedied anyway.
Here is the pic before it was placed in the box.
I tried shooting it without a scope and its quite difficult to consistently aim so I will mount a scope on this one and will do further test. I will use this as is with factory settings.
Will add more reviews and pics after I get it zeroed at the range.
Continued. .
Here's the gun fully assembled with a scope mounted to it.

GUN TESTING:
Was not able to go to the range to do some pellet and velocity comparison at my planed scope zero of 25 meters so did it at our backyard with about 12 meters to work with. Below are the group shots and respective velocity. I only used 5 shot groups for the test as I had limited time for the moment. Set scope at 3.5x magnification for clarity as this one does not have adjustable AO.
These are locally made pellets which I have on hand. And interestingly enough I have a box of Comet pellets which I have pre-sorted some time ago. Even though it has been resized, it was still difficult to load the pellet. Here are the results.
COMET 15.9 grains / FPS:718, 642, 723, 710, 724
For some comparison and baseline, I also used JSB exact pellets.
JSB EXACT / FPS:707, 706, 702, 716, 713
Here's a group shot using Quick Silver sorted and resized.
Quick Silver 18.2 grains / FPS:653, 659, 660, 659, 662
Finally, Super Zero shot groups, pellets were also sorted and resized.
Super Zero 18.2 / FPS:654, 651, 654, 652, 657
Suprised? Well I was too. I used the lightest in my sorted batch so I can compare it with QS pellets of similar weight. I thought that on the second shot I missed or the pellet went flying somewhere. The flyer was actually the last shot as I tried to change the positioin of my grip. 4-shots went into the same hole!
No modifications or even cleaning was made to the gun, this was straight out of the box performance and I did not even tinker with the trigger which had a very long slack and travel.
Overall I am happy with this one and its gonna be a keeper. It will be a long way till I get accustomed to breaking and firing it. But that is all part of the fun in our sport and hobby.
Have a nice day to all!
