If you don't push the pump plunger all the way the compressed air will mostly stay in the pump and won't be pushed past the compression valve to the reservoir.

That looks similar to my de-bomba in the early 70's. When I go shooting in the rice paddies, i bring a piece of wood so I can pump it on the ground so It doesn't dig in. It's just amazing using open sights and hit your target. Now I can't shoot any of my airguns without scope...what I got now is sniper eyes...blurry close range but clear on distant objects. My de bomaba now is a modded Crosman 1377 carbine.

img261.imageshack.us/img261/7784/dscf0007k.jpgMy 1377 @ 20 pumps delivers 828.7fps with 10.5 CPHP and is plenty for feathered targets around 50 yards. I mostly use 10 pumps in my backyard which is 35 yards max. The squirrel was taken with Beeman pointed 8.3 gr with 10 pumps just shy of 20 yards, in the ear and out the chin.

My 1377 is pump pneumatic like the Farco de bomba I have in the 70's and is underlever pumping. As for dual fuel type shooter Co2 or Compressed air, need to fill it either co2 or air and bleed off the other if you need to use co2 or compressed air. Liquid co2 in the tube maintains it's pressure (850-1200psi) and that depends on ambient temp. The hotter it is the higher the pressure and sometimes create valve lock ( hammer cannot open valve due to higher pressure). I have a QB78d and when it's filled with co2 in liquid (1 oz) it's good for 30 shots..710 fps with 14.3 gr but if just all air, it's only good for 5 shots.
