THE HAMMERLI 850 AIRMAGNUM
Hello again to everyone, let me properly introduce myself , before I start my first review , My name is Fred Claridades and I grew up in Obando, Bulacan , but now residing in Dolores, Quezon and Gloria Mindoro. Spent more than half of my life abroad working in the Oil Ministry in Kuwait. I started shooting air guns when I was 7 years old and that was 45 years ago, and with all those years, I’m still crazy with it. Enough of the intro , and lets go to the first review, I bought this air rifle almost 3 months ago , at a cost of 500 US dollars , in a local gun shop in Kuwait. The rifle came in a very nice box and packaging and comes with a factory mounted walther 6X42 scope , a bipod , a suppressor , two canisters of 88 gram CO2 , 1000 pellets (Umarex), two 8 round clips, some Allen keys, a padded nylon rifle case and a pad of official BirchwoodCasey stick on target sheets. The specs of the rifle are as follows: • Weight: 5.65 lbs • Barrel Length:23.62" • Overall Length: 41.00" • Capacity: 8 round(s) • Barrel:Hammerli steel forged .177 , 15 mm in diameter. • Muzzle velocity in .177 averaged 770 fps • Front Sight: Fiber Optic • Rear Sight: Fiber Optic • Scopeable: 11mm dovetail • Apprx. Trigger Pull: 1.6lbs • Buttpad: Ventilated rubber • Action: Bolt-action • Powerplant: CO2 88 gram cylinder approx. 200 shots per cylinder. • Safety: Automatic • Repeater: Repeater (8 shot clips).

I remember it was a hot summer day with temperature reaching 50 deg. when I got home, open the box , fix a new gas cylinder , load two clips with Gamo match pellets, lay my shooting mat to shot prone position with the bi-pod and fix a target out beyond 26.5 meters (fence to fence in my house). This is the first time I am going to shoot a rifle with a factory mounted scopeand to my surprise the first 3 shots was just 6mm off target at 26.5 meters ,I continued shooting and breaking the rifle fired 32 shots at the same target without adjusting the scope, and all 32 shots group at ¾ inch , wow this rifle will do wonders. The bolt and action was slick and smooth, the automatic safety button at the rear of the action was very easy to handle, the trigger is a two stage match design with a light and long first stage and a very crisp second stage the trigger in the rifle I got was adjusted to a low 1.6 lbs pull , watch out the first time I shot the rifle I mistook the second stage as a part of the first, a couple of shots and you can actually feel the difference between the two trigger stages.

The rifle was well balanced and configured in a tactical mode , which can handle both hunting and target shooting , the suppressor that came with the rifle is quite huge and reduces the report of the gun to a mere whisper, although it adds up another 4 inches to an already long 23.6 inch barrel. I tried using the rifle with the suppressor in the field ,hunting stone pigeons , the accuracy was great and I can actually shot the head of a bird at 30 meters, but the length of the rifle with the suppressor makes it a bit difficult crawling in hedges and bushes. Using the rifle for sniping rats on my friends barn was a top notch , silent and deadly, the velocity is just the way I like most of my air guns to have ( mostly the range between 650 to 950 fps is very good for pellet accuracy) view showing the big can rigth side of the reciever. left side the bussiness end My restless and crazy mind is planning to do some modifications to this rifle , mostly on its accessories , by building a new barrel shroud suppressor which will not lengthen the barrel, and to convert one of those disposable 88 gram cylinder to refillable ones, as well as a smaller size diameter cylinder for compressed air fuel and make this rifle a PCP. That will come in the near future, but for now I recommend this rifle for its accuracy , simplicity ,tough design ( a lot of machined metal parts),and overall performance
